What is the 501st Legion?
A worldwide Star Wars costuming organisation made up of volunteer fans who build screen-accurate villain, Imperial, and non-partisan costumes, then use them for charity work, conventions, and community events. The Singapore Garrison is our local chapter.
Where did the "501st" name come from?
It's a nod to Darth Vader's personal legion from Star Wars lore, nicknamed "Vader's Fist" — the elite unit said to have never failed him. Fan costuming groups adopted the name and identity for their own charity-driven organisation.
What can the Singapore Garrison do for my event?
We provide costumed appearances for charity drives, hospital visits, community events, and approved promotional appearances — bringing Stormtroopers, villains, and other Imperial characters to your event for photos and appearances.
Do you charge for appearances?
We're a volunteer, not-for-profit group, so we don't charge appearance fees. Instead, for most appearances we ask the requestor to make a donation directly to a charity of our choosing. Submit a request and we'll confirm details with you directly.
Is the 501st part of Lucasfilm or Disney?
No — we're an independent fan-run organisation, not officially employed by or affiliated with Lucasfilm. We do operate under their generally accepted guidelines for Star Wars fan groups.
How do I join the Singapore Garrison?
Start with our Join the Empire page. You'll need a costume that meets Legion approval standards — new members are welcome to reach out to current members for build advice before submitting for approval.
Where do members get their costumes?
Members build or commission their own costumes to meet the Legion's screen-accuracy standards. It's a serious hobby — many members spend months sourcing armour, fabric, and props before their costume is approved.
Isn't it hot in those costumes, especially in Singapore?
Very. Singapore's climate makes full armour a real endurance test, so our members plan hydration breaks and cooling gear into every appearance, and organisers are asked to provide a shaded rest area at outdoor events.
How do I request the Garrison for my event?
Use our Request an Appearance form with your event date, location, and details. Our appearance coordinators will follow up to confirm availability.
